Emergency, ambulance and blood bank

Each attendance records how the patient arrived (walking in, by ambulance, with the police or on referral) and what kind of case it is: trauma, medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric or psychiatric. Triage places them as critical, urgent, moderate, minor or non urgent, with who triaged them and when.

The board follows the patient from waiting, through triage, treatment and observation, to the outcome: discharged, admitted, transferred, left against advice or died.

Each vehicle is recorded as basic, advanced, ICU, neonatal or patient transport, with its oxygen, defibrillator, stretcher and ventilator, its driver and paramedic, and the dates its registration, insurance and service fall due.

A booking moves through the steps a dispatcher actually tracks: confirmed, dispatched, on the way to pickup, at pickup, patient loaded, on the way to the destination, arrived. The trip is charged from a base fare and a rate per kilometre.

Units are stocked by group and component (whole blood, packed red cells, platelets, plasma and cryoprecipitate), each with screening results and an expiry date, and each marked available, reserved, issued, expired, discarded or in quarantine.

Donors are recorded with their consent and its date, and deferred donors stay marked as such. A transfusion request is cross matched before release, and the record keeps what was transfused, any reaction and its severity, and the outcome.

A doctor consults by video, audio or chat in the browser, with nothing for the patient to install. The session’s clinical notes carry into a prescription at the end, and the consultation fee is billed like any other.
