Inpatient wards and nursing

Vitals by stepping, not typing.

The inpatient module covers admissions, wards and bed assignments, drug rounds and scheduled infusions. Nurses record vitals by stepping values rather than typing them.

Used by: Nurses, matrons and ward doctors.

The admissions list, showing ward, bed, treating doctor and day of stay

What it does

  • Blood pressure moves in twos the way an aneroid dial reads.
  • Temperature stepped in tenths, typed numbers still accepted.
  • Observations displayed as chips rather than prose, so a handover reads at a glance.
  • Admissions, wards and bed assignments.
  • Drug rounds and scheduled infusions.

Admission to discharge

A patient is admitted as emergency, elective, transfer or referral, to a ward and a bed, under an attending doctor. The admission holds the diagnosis, dietary restrictions, special instructions, an emergency contact and any insurance policy and pre-authorisation number.

Wards are set up the way the hospital is built: general, private, semi private, ICU, NICU, PICU, CCU, maternity, paediatric, surgical, orthopaedic and emergency. Each bed is available, occupied, reserved, being cleaned or under maintenance, and the ward list counts occupancy from the beds themselves rather than from a number somebody updates.

Discharge records the type (normal, against medical advice, transfer or death), the condition on leaving, instructions and a follow up date. The stay is charged at discharge and the bill comes back with it. The discharge summary is kept as a stamped version, so a printed copy can always be matched to what the system holds.

The drug round

The rounds screen shows every occupied bed, what is due and what has not been given. Each dose is recorded as given, refused, withheld or missed, with the route, the time and the nurse who gave it, and a reason when it was not given. A missed dose stays visible instead of disappearing at the end of a shift.

Infusions are ordered with the fluid, volume, rate and additives, then started, completed or stopped with a reason, and each step records who did it.

Vitals and nursing notes

Blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, SpO2 and weight are entered with steppers that move the way the instrument reads, and a typed number is always accepted. The field shows what the nurse typed while they type, so a temperature of 38.5 goes in as 38.5.

Nursing notes are filed as routine, observation, medication, procedure or incident, with the nurse’s name and the time, so the next shift can find the incidents without reading every routine entry.

Questions buyers ask

Do nurses have to type every vital sign?

No. Values are stepped the way the instrument reads, blood pressure in twos and temperature in tenths. A typed number is still accepted.

Does the ward module handle drug rounds?

Yes. Drug rounds and scheduled infusions are recorded on the ward, alongside admissions, wards and bed assignments.

See it working before you decide

Open the demo clinic and sign in as a doctor, a nurse or the front desk. Nothing to install and no account needed. When you want your own patients in it, the trial runs for thirty days with everyone who works there included.
